Keys to Social Networking

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforward

Wow! It’s been a couple of months since my last blog. I needed the time off to reassess, reorganize, and readjust. In my last blog, I talked about a couple of people whom I asked for help from. Well, both of those colleagues have since brought me business. I have since worked with clients of one of those people. And I am subcontracting with the other person.

During this recession, which I think is technically over, partnering with people over the Internet is Golden. Though, there is a right way and a million wrong ways to market yourself over the Internet. Of course, it would be easy for me to tell you to find as many social networking sites as you can and put up profiles on them. I don’t recommend that at all. In fact, I recommend not doing that. Once you put up profiles people expect you to maintain those profiles. So, my first word of advice is to not spread yourself thin.

At the same time, while not spreading yourself thin, choose your channels wisely. Last week, in my other blog, SEO Bridges Blog, I talked about a Website call Techrigy. It offers a social media monitoring service called SM2. Don’t put a profile on MySpace if it won’t do you or your business any good.

For me, I have a profile on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (I am less active on this on purpose), but all of my other profiles are more obscure sites. The reason for that is that I am interested in networking with two types of people: Web designers, other content writers, etc; and people in the San Diego area. For that reason sites like MySpace, Hi5, Friendster, etc. have little value, so I don’t put profiles on them.

Now, I mentioned Twitter, which has value for me; though, it may not have any value for you. Twitter is conversational, so have something to contribute to the conversation and take part in the conversation. The key is to figure out what kind of conversation you want to take part in, follow people who are part of that conversation, and contribute to that conversation. Follow people you are likely to reTweet, don’t follow everyone who follows you, and don’t be afraid to unfollow people.

Before I follow someone, I review their profile, including their previous Tweet and their Website (if they have one). If I find that that person’s Tweets have value to the conversation I want to participate in, I follow that person. If their Website about an Internet program that will help you get rich in 90 days, give you the secrets to finding Twitter followers, automating your Twitter stream, or something else along those lines, I don’t follow that person.

After someone starts following me, I send them quick note thanking them for the follow. Think about when you’re at a party, talking with a few people about last week’s football game, or your latest business venture, and someone walks in and joins the conversation. It’s considerate to acknowledge their presence, so they don’t feel like the fern in the corner of the room has more value than they do. In the same way, it’s considerate to do the same thing on Twitter.

Okay, I could go on about Twitter, as well as Internet marketing; though, my last word of advice is to follow up on your Internet marketing. This is the hardest part. Connect in person with those people you market with online. Meetup is a great way to meet other like minded people, whom you may know from Twitter, Facebook, or other social networking sites. And for those you don’t know, they can become friends and followers of yours on those sites.

That’s it for this week. I’m going to start blogging on here weekly again, so keep coming back. And for information on great free and open source products that will make your life easier, read my other blog. And if you need assistance with your SEO or social networking, please visit my site for more information. I offer various packages, as well as I work by the hour, and discounts to NPO’s. I will also donate a portion of my fees to my chosen NPO’s via Agentspayingforward.

Keep connecting,

Erick

KenyaRelief & Shop To Earn - Help A Great Cause While Shopping

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforwrd

I just received this note from a friend of mine, Chris Jones. Chris is involved with a company called “Shop to Earn” that allows you to shop for everyday products, but, by using their sales platform, you are able to support numerous charitable endeavors: Chris shared his latest client KenyaRelief.org. I think it’s a great model that you can buy everyday product, and “pay it forward” to some great causes.

Tom:

I wanted to share this letter that was sent out to all the donors with this non-profit organization. This will explain what Shop to Earn is all about. If there are organizations or individuals out there that want information about this great opportunity, they can call me at 517-605-3620 or email me at buckeyes-cjones@comcast.net.

Hello Kenya Relief Supporters,

I would like to invite you to help Kenya Relief launch an exciting new way to support our children.

Welcome to Kenya Relief’s website, www.shoptoearn.net/kenyarelief a unique website that allows you to shop online with many retailers we deal with everyday and many “green- conscious companies” , where you can purchase environmentally safe products, and partner with Kenya Relief to help make difference in the lives of the children of Marindi Children’s Home of Grace in Migori, Africa. KenyaRelief.org is a 501(c) (3) non-profit charity, and is the sole supporter for a school, an orphanage, a modern health clinic, boys and girls dorms, a church, a library, numerous support programs for widows and families, and over 100 orphans in Migori, Western Kenya.

In 2009 we are sending 9 medical and mission teams over to Kenya to provide free health care to the disadvantaged and physically disabled of Western Kenya. Kenya Relief teams have provided full health care for over 15,000 patients over the past 6 years. In 2004, Kenya Relief opened the Marindi Children’s Home of Grace: it is now a home to over 100 boys and girls who would have otherwise been left to wander the streets. Our goal is to provide spiritual, physical, educational, and emotional care to each child in their community. We are committed to raising the children to make a difference in Kenya.

Please join Kenya Relief as we launch a new way to support our efforts by using the Shop to Earn and Shop to Earth websites. When you log onto www.shoptoearn.net/kenyarelief, scroll down the page to the left hand corner, where you will see the KenyaRelief.org logo. You will know you are on our website where your purchases will give a small of cash back to KenyaRelief.org. The Art of Forgiveness

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforwrd

Blog posting by Erick Pettersen of People Connect

Currently, I am working on a novel I call a psychological-memoir. The storyline will be that of a psychological thriller; however, it will carry elements of my life. The theme will be that of personal and social forgiveness, rather than being a religious theme.

The idea came to me after I heard someone say that sometimes what holds us back from achieving our full potential is the bitterness we hold onto. We allow that bitterness to grow inside of us and pervade our lives. After a while, we grow accustomed to the bitterness, and it begins to affect those around us.

In my book, the protagonist (Michael) goes back to ask for forgiveness from someone from his past. He comes to believe he can only overcome the guilt that plagues his life by seeking out the person he offended and asking for her forgiveness. At the same time, Rebecca, who has come to live with the effects of this heinous sin committed against her, goes on her own journey to try to erase the memories of her past. The story is about each person’s search for forgiveness, whether we need to ask for forgiveness from someone or we need to forgive.

Forgiveness is an issue I believe we all need to deal with at one level or another, whether with another person or people group. It is an issue that holds many of us back from becoming the best we can be, connecting with those around us, and achieving our dreams. Today, if you want to connect with someone, in your personal or professional life, but you just can’t seem to, consider that maybe un-forgiveness keeps you from making those connections.

One last thought. Forgiveness does not require forgetfulness; it only asks you to let go and move forward into a better you.

Keep connecting,

Erick

Seeing Needs

Blog posting by Erick Pettersen of People Connect

For those of us who grew up with cartoons like G.I Joe and Duck Tales, we forever have mantras such as “And knowing is half the battle!” and “Work smarter, not harderer!” stuck in our heads. By now, many of you know that I am the guy who runs SEOBridges.com, and I have connected with many of you via Facebook or Twitter. A week after I launched my site, I am on the top of Google’s list, but I need to keep gaining knowledge in order to stay there.

Right now, I am gathering addresses of potential clients here in the San Diego area. After I gather all 560 or so of those address, I will research several of those companies. It doesn’t make sense to research an entire population, when a sample will do the job. Then, I will provide services to meet the needs of those companies. After that, I will send out letters of introduction to those companies. Yes, actual letters.

It’s important to slow down and take the time to development relationships with people. I have come to understand that people care what you know, as well as who you know, but they also care that you know their needs.

When I get ready to send out those letters of introduction, I will take the time, as best I can, to find out those companies’ needs. Running a business is about developing relationships, seeing needs, and letting your clients know you care about their well being.

Until next week,

Erick

Qualities of Leadership

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforwrd

Blog posting by Erick Pettersen of People Connect.

This last weekend, a national audience viewed a great example of how not to connect.  At the end one of the greatest upsets in sports history, the leader of that team left the game without shaking the hands of the players on the other team.  The day after that event, that player faced accusations of his unsportsmanlike like conduct, excused his behavior rather than accepting responsibility.  In the same way that a player or coach walking off of a court without shaking the hands of their opponents shows something about their character, any business person who does not conduct him/herself in a team like manner reveals something about their character.

I played high school baseball, and my coach told us that we practice like we play.   Everyday we dressed in full uniform and practiced like we played.  Over a three year period (I transferred my sr. yr.) we went 29-1 during the regular seasons.  I believe ‘presentation is everything,’ and I surround myself with people who also follow that principle.

It is important that you practice like you play; though, it’s just important that you surround yourself with others who also practice like they play.  First, always dress in full uniform.  Everyday, I wake at 5, take a shower, get dressed, grab a cup of coffee, and read.  Everyday, I make sure I’m working in a clean room with a made bed.  I work at home, and my clients don’t care what I or my room looks like.  They only care that I get the job done.  The environment we create for ourselves begins at home.

Whether you are self-employed, an employer, or a co-worker, the people on your team are part of your environment just as much as your daily routine.  The clients you attract is evidenced by the team you create, and the team you create is evidenced by how you conduct yourself in all situations.

Since that sports upset this past weekend, Sports analyst have begun to question the future of that one player and that team.  I suspect that like other teams that have experienced major upsets, how that one player conducts himself in the months and years to come will determine the future of that organization.  In the same way, if you are a leader of any type of organization,  how you conduct yourself in all circumstances will determine the future of your organization.

Until next week, Keep connecting.  And come join the growing list of people on People Connect and AgentsPayingForward.

Erick

Care to Cure - This is What's Right With America's Youth!

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforwrd

Many people decry that America's youth are a mess, or something similar. Sadly, there is often evidence to support that contention. However, what doesn't get press are the stories of today's youth that give you hope that America's future is still bright. I received an email from Elena Lyustina, and I'm really glad I did. Elena is going to school at UC Davis, and she told me about an organization that she founded called CARE-TO-CURE Childhood Cancer Awareness Organization.

After speaking to Elena, I realized two things. First, America's youth will keep the dream alive just fine. Secondly, I want to help Elena. Below is Elena's story. Please take the time to read her information, and, if you are looking for a charity to "pay it forward to", please consider Care to Cure - they are helping St. Judes Hospital and making me proud to be an American. I have also included the link to Elena's You-Tube Video as well.

As an intern in the Child Life ward at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, I was given the opportunity to work closely with many patients. In particular, I grew extremely close with a nine year old girl who was getting her gallbladder removed. After countless weeks of visiting her in the hospital, I came to my internship knowing that her surgery was completed and she was already sent home. To my surprise, I saw her name on the patient list and I quickly walked over to her room. As I approached her room, I heard a young girl screaming in pain and there she was pressing the morphine button as tears rolled down her face. I quickly learned that she was diagnosed with a terminal cancer that had already eaten away at her kidney. A week later, she was sent home because the cancer was untreatable. Over 12,400 children, in the United States alone, are affected by cancer and over 4,000 children die of cancer each year. That means that 11 children die of cancer every single day. Childhood cancer is unbiased. It deteriorates the lives of children from various backgrounds and different age groups. It steals childhoods from children who were one day healthy enough to run around on playgrounds or play basketball with their friends. It forces them into hospitals, to loose their hair due to chemotherapy, and loosens the friendships they once made with friends. After learning the detrimental affects of childhood cancer, I founded CARE-TO-CURE at the University of California, Davis.

CARE TO CURE is the only student organization at UC Davis that is aimed at fighting against childhood cancer. We raise funds for children afflicted by cancer, spread community and campus awareness, and bring hope to these children and their families. We organize fundraisers, campus events, and create personal relationships with these children and their families by visiting them at different facilities. CARE-TO-CURE is affiliated with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and is leading the Up 'till Dawn Project on the University of California, Davis campus. Up 'till Dawn is a student run and student led philanthropic program that unites students from all walks of campus life, staff, and the Davis community with the goal to end childhood cancer once and for all. Students help raise awareness and support for St. Jude Children's Research hospital through a variety of activities.

At the end of the program campuses host an all-night Finale Event and literately stay Up 'till Dawn. Students give up a night of sleep in honor of the patients at St. Jude who bravely fight cancer. We celebrate our efforts for St. Jude and, at dawn, find out much our campus raised to advance the mission of finding cures and saving children, so that patients can grow up and go to college, too.CARE-TO-CURE is also sponsored by Caprii Media,
http://www.capriimedia.com/ , an online marketing and web design company. Caprii Media has donated our brand new website, http://www.care-to-cure.com/ , which is currently under construction, and a marketing campaign, as well as funds for our upcoming events. To show an appreciation for the unbinding dedication provided by our sponsors, CARE TO CURE will dedicate a portion of our events to thank our sponsors, feature them on the home page of our website, and incorporate their name and logo on all of our brochures, fliers, and posters. Our sponsors are always welcome to discuss their venues at our events and if they are not available to make it, CARE TO CURE will be able to promote their organization for them! The events, fundraisers, and outreach programs CARE-TO-CURE wishes to accomplish cannot be done without the support and dedication of our sponsors that understand the importance in finding a cure for childhood cancer. CARE-TO-CURE is determined to raise funds to find a cure for childhood cancer, spread community and campus awareness, and bring hope to these children and their families. Please join us in the fight against childhood cancer.

For more information about Care to Cure, please contact Elena at:CARETOCURE@gmail.com while their site is under construction (thanks for Capri Media too).

Please join Agentspayingforward.com, and, if you do, please consider Care-to-Cure as one of the charities to support. It's free for both agents and charities to join. Next week, I'll tell you how one donation led to an agent getting access to a huge non-profit's database for advertising. For now, I'm off to , with a bunch of guys who went to UCLA a long time ago!

What is Agents Paying Forward?

Follow us on Twitter! @agentspayforwrd

The agents on this site have pledged to make a difference in the world and you can too. Welcome to Agents Paying Forward, a FREE site developed for agents who want to "pay it forward" to their designated charities and help support the communities in which they serve.

Each agent featured on this website has elected to contribute to one of the many worthy charitable organizations listed on this site. Every transaction an agent closes will generate a donation to his or her preferred charity. The more business the agent does, the more the charity receives - it's that simple.

Changing the world may seem heroic, but leaders like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and many others have demonstrated that one person can make a huge difference: think of what many agents can do collectively!

Attention Consumers - the agents on this site have pledged to make a difference in the world. By working with the agents on the site, you can do your part and make a difference. Help a charity by working with one of these agents! Paying it forward helps so many needy and deserving groups, at no cost to you.

There are so many great charitable organizations that are doing truly amazing work. The organizations are not limited to just America either. Whether it be the Red Cross, Make-A-Wish, Wounded Warrior (there are two Wounded Warrior programs, and both do great work), March of Dimes, Shriners Hospitals, or your local church, there are countless organizations that do incredible things. However, just as the list of charitable organizations is practically endless, the need for money and help is almost endless as well. Agents Paying Forward wants to help all of these worthy organizations continue to help those in need. If you are an agent – real estate, insurance, title, loan, or any other kind of agent, join Agents Paying Forward - It costs nothing to join!

If you are a charitable organization in need of help, you can join as well – for free! We have agents who, upon hearing about your organization, may want to sponsor you as well. You can advertise your organization on the site, or have your sponsoring agent advertise jointly as well. The more business the agent does, the more their chosen charity will receive. It is that simple!

If you are a consumer, do business with the agents on this site: they have pledged to make a difference in the world. By working with the agents on the site, you can do your part to help change the world as well. You don’t have even have to support the agent’s charity: you may want to support another charity – go ahead! You are not limited on who you support by any means: we just want to encourage paying it forward in order to help so many needy and deserving groups.
